“Always, you know, as far as my parents, family and friends, you know, black was never a negative to us you know. It was always something that we're super proud of. You know, was never a negative to us, it was a negative, the other people, but not to us.”

“Always be a good example for your race. Don't be, you know, a negative example, whereas somebody can blame what you do on a whole race of people. But definitely be a credit to black folks.”

“Historic Designation would just mean that, you know, it was notable, you know that great things were made in Brownsville. Great things are happening in Brownsville and that black people get their proper credit for their contributions to society, especially in Dade County.”
